From the North/West (I-279 South): Follow I-279 South towards Pittsburgh. On the approach to Pittsburgh, follow the signs for I-579 South to I-376 East Monroeville. You will cross a bridge through downtown and continue on an elevated road (The Boulevard of the Allies) until you see a (relatively small) sign on your right to "Forbes Ave". Turn right and you will be on Forbes. * Continue up the hill through the University of Pittsburgh including its large Cathedral of Learning on the left, past the Carnegie Museum on the right, across a bridge over a gorge and two traffic lights later turn left onto Morewood Ave. Continue three streets straight ahead until Morewood and Ellsworth, where the church will be on your right. From the South/West/Airport (I-279 North): Follow I-279 North towards Pittsburgh. Just before arriving downtown you will pass through the Fort Pitt Tunnels. From here, you will cross a large yellow bridge and take the first exit after the bridge to "I-376 Monroeville" on which you will go along the river until the Forbes Avenue Exit, after which follow the directions starting at * above. From the East (I-376 West): Take I-376 until the Edgewood/Swissvale Exit and turn right towards Edgewood on S. Braddock Ave. After passing a neighborhood business district, there will be a park on the left. At the light at the end of the park turn left onto Forbes Ave. Stay on Forbes through a forest, through another neighborhood business district (Squirrel Hill), around a curve to the right, down a hill, around a curve to the left with Carnegie Mellon University on your left. With the CMU Campus Mall on your left you will arrive at a light; turn right here onto Morewood Ave. Continue straight and the church is on the right at the third intersection (Morewood and Ellsworth). Phipps Garden Center
From the North/West (I-279 South): Follow I-279 South towards Pittsburgh. On the approach to Pittsburgh, follow the signs for I-579 South to I-376 East Monroeville. You will cross a bridge through downtown and continue on an elevated road (The Boulevard of the Allies). Stay on the Blvd that will take you through Schenley Park. After you go straight through the light in the Park you will bear left at the next street - there will be other traffic that follows this route. This is Beacon Street - You will go up a short hill, down a hill, straight through a major intersection (at Murray Avenue) up another hill and at traffic light turn left onto Shady Avenue. Go down a hill past a business district on the left, up a hill, slowly down a hill, bank to the right, go over a small hill and before arriving at the next traffic light (Fifth Avenue) you will turn right off of Shady into the Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Crafts/Phipps Garden Center parking lot. Go to the back of the lot and the Phipps Garden Center backs into the parking lot. From the South/West/Airport (I-279 North): Follow I-279 North towards Pittsburgh. Just before arriving downtown you will pass through the Fort Pitt Tunnels. From here, you will cross a large bridge and bear right and take the first exit to "I-376 Monroeville" on which you will go along the river until the Squirrel Hill Exit. After exiting follow the signs to Squirrel Hill (turn left) and at the traffic light go straight and a little right onto Forward Avenue go one block to the next traffic light turn left (Shady Avenue). Shady Avenue is one of those great Pittsburgh streets that make several turns but just stay on Shady. You will climb a hill turn slightly to the left, go straight for a few blocks still climbing the hill, go down a hill pass a business district on the left, up a hill, slowly down a hill, bank to the right, go over a small hill and before arriving at the next traffic light (Fifth Avenue) you will turn right into the Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Crafts/Phipps Garden Center parking lot. Go to the back of the lot and the Phipps Garden Center backs into the parking lot. From the East (I-376 West): Take I-376 to the Churchill exit that goes off to the left. [The exit before this one is the Penn Hills exit] After the exit ramp go straight up a hill down a hill level for a few blocks down a hill and the street bears to the right. Stay on this street (Penn Ave). Continue on Penn Ave. through the Wilkinsburg business district (this is a mess) past MacDonalds & Wendys then into the city of Pittsburgh. At the corner of Penn & Braddock there are two gas stations at this point start counting traffic lights - there are four (Carnegie Place, Homewood, Lang, & Linden) then the next traffic light is Fifth Ave. (at a major intersection) where you turn left onto Fifth Avenue. After you are on Fifth go to the second traffic light, turn left onto Shady Ave. Within a block on your left will be the parking lot for the Pittsburgh Arts and Crafts Center & Phipps Garden Center. Go to the back of the lot and the Phipps Garden Center backs into the parking lot. A few notes about
Pittsburgh: Radford Court Community Center
From the Airport/South: Take I-5 North to Exit number 171 - towards N.E. 65TH ST, and head west. Stay on this road until you can't go any further. You'll be going up hills and down hills. Turn right, and just after that turn left onto NE 64th St. Follow the arrows to the community center, and park in its parking lot. These directions subject to change in mid-September. Check back. From the North: Take I-5 South to Exit number 171 and follow the above instructions. From the East: Take I-90 West to I-5 North and follow the first set of instructions. | |
